What Is
Regenerative Medicine?
Regenerative medicine refers to using the body’s innate ability to heal itself to boost collagen, repair tissue, and grow new healthy tissue.
Regenerative treatments can be achieved in many ways:
- autologous stimulation using the patient’s own biologic substances, like blood plasma or growth factors
- allogenic stimulation using human donor substances
- xenogenic substances derived from other species like plant extracts
- synthetic substances that act as scaffolds or irritants to engineer new tissue formation and repair faulty tissue
- energy or mechanical devices like lasers, microneedles or radiofrequency
At NectarineMD, we offer two autologous injectable options for regenerative medicine including PRP and PRFM derived from the patient’s own blood using the Selphyl collection kit. PRFM is great for targeting crepey skin and regrowing damaged hair follicles. More on autologous regeneration is explained in the next section.
We also offer allogenic regenerative treatments for topical applications with the FactorFive product line including Exofecta exosomes, RDS peel, and the FactorFive skin care line delivering human growth factors derived from ethically sourced human stem cell cultures.
VAMP Advanced, part of our NectarineMD Signature Microneedling Facial is an example of a Xenogenic regenerative medicine that we offer. VAMP is derived from Salmon DNA and closely mimics human DNA to aid in healing, improve skin tonicity, reduce pores, smooth wrinkles, and improve glow and hydration.
Tissue regeneration can also be achieved using synthetic substances such as dilute Radiesse, Sculptra and threads. Radiesse uses calcium and Sculptra and threads are made of substances similar to dissolvable sutures. All of these synthetic materials stimulate a mild immune response to trigger the body to heal itself, and eventually are degraded and eliminated from the body. Left behind is new, rejuvenated tissue with improved form and function.
Energy or mechanical devices or like lasers, and mechanical devices like microneedling induce controlled trauma to the tissue to stimulate the healing response by the body to improve skin quality.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)
PRP is created wIth a small sample of your blood using the Selphyl® brand collection system without any synthetic materials. The thin viscosity of PRP makes it ideal for microneedling into the surface of the skin to accelerate, amplify, and complement the healing induced by microneedling and is ideal for:

Platelet-Rich Fibrin Matrix (PRFM)
PRFM is the next generation of PRP and is ideally suited for injection into the dermis for improved healing power over injected PRP because it allows for sustained suspension in the dermis for up to 7 days, rather than PRP, which only lasts several hours. By adding calcium chloride to the PRP, a cross linked fibrin matrix is formed which slows the rate of clearance by the body compared to PRP. This preparation of PRP into PRFM amplifies its effects and creates a scaffold that keeps the platelets in the tissue, allowing for:
- Sustained release of regenerative growth factors
- Improvements in skin quality, including smoother texture, enhanced luminosity, and reduced fine lines and crepey skin
- Visible improvements in the appearance of stretch marks and scars
- more dramatic improvements over a longer period compared to traditional PRP

EZ-Gel and Selphyll®
When volumization is desired using PRFM, NectarineMD offers EZ-Gel or Selphyller, an autologous gel filler made from your own blood. By gently heating the sticky PRFM, it transforms into a more viscous gel that is ideal for volumizing the face, particularly useful for the tear trough area under the eyes and can reduce dark circles while improving skin texture.
